Distractions

We spend hours watching, playing with, sharing, talking about, and investing our time into other people's visions, dreams, and goals, and not working on our own. Why?

The NBA Finals... love it and a juicy distraction!

Media & Political Daily Drama... heartbreaking and a juicy distraction!

A new Netflix or HBO show... yeeees, and a juicy distraction!

A hot new Wekend song... sexy and a juicy distraction!

Top Gun, Jurrasic Park... Hot and a juicy distraction!

IG, Tik Toc, Facebook... ugh, and a lot of juicy distractions!

This is a solo episode with Alex, he talks about:

All of these things can be valuable and important as well. But for so many of us, these things often pull us away from our own goals and dreams. We spend hours watching, playing with, sharing, talking about, and investing our time into other people's visions, dreams, and goals, and not working on our own.

Why?

Because we are more likely to get the positive, safe, fun, enjoyable feedback we desire that also feels safe, and we don't have to be with our fears of failure or criticism in putting our stuff out there. It is scary, vulnerable, and risky to spend hours working on our book, poetry, music, art, clothing lines, opening our bar, or other business, passions, desires, or dreams and maybe not getting the feedback we need, want or worst bombing. So we find incredible ways to distract ourselves. Capitalism loves keeping us busy, distracted, and buying from fear. When we are scared, unfulfilled, or unhappy, we spend money to make ourselves feel better.

And we can buy and spend, and have fun with all that...

But we could also be creating, and we can still consume in a supportive way. We can consume and create and have it all. But we'd have to get present to why we are avoiding our putting our stuff on the back burner for someone else first.
